The beginning...(part 1)

As you can see on the right, I began the sport of Triathlon in 2007. Why did I start? I was a swimmer in HS and always wanted to try a triathlon. One night in December of 2006, I was surfing the web and saw a link to a Tri in my neck of the woods. I was still playing flag football at this time and had been working out consistently, so I figured what the heck, I always wanted to.
I had never run more than 3 miles at one time, in fact I hated(still do)running. I liked swimming and everyone rides a bike. So I signed up for the Steelman Sprint Tri...I figured it isn't that long.

I got back into the pool at the Bethlehem YMCA, where I was once part of the swim team, and just began swimming. Boy was I out of shape, my triceps ached, my fit level was much lower than I had thought. Stuck to swimming 3 days a week and made improvements fast. As I swim, my mind gets to thinking...like, I do not have a suit for this, I do not run, I do not have a road bike - just some hybrid from the early 90's. What am I goign to do? For the fitness part of things, I continued to make use of BeachBody workouts in conjunction with the swim workouts and improved my cardio. What about everthing else, I do nto want to spend a ton of money on this?

I recall that when I coached swimming, I had a few suits left over from the team members that quit and never wore the suits. I go down to the basement and look through my old stuff, there it is a speedo race suit, yeah bikini style. It will work but I am way too fat to fit into a 28 size suit. I better start watching what I eat. Yep, now I begin looking at what I am eating, I really should stop drinking if I want to make it through this race in August.
