San Fran is a beautiful city, a city you are able to walk or ride, a city where you can find many things to do, overall an enjoyable city.
The race - it was awesome, hard but awesome. As I had figured, I did not have enough seat time for the bike portion. It was long hills, both out and back - how? not sure but it was. I had a 30 minute swim, which was average not great, but I was pleased and it was my first ever ocean swim, I really had fun with it. T1 killed my overall time, it took me 11 minutes and I have no idea what I did????? I averaged 16 on the bike, this was very disappointing, I was hoping for 18, but I only had pre-ridden half the course, so I took it easy out, I regret that. The run was difficult in that there were only 2 real places for passing, 1 on the beach at the turn around prior to the killer sand steps, the other at the beginning and end of the race. Overall, I had a nice run.
I had been nursing an unknown injury since the Wednesday prior to the 1/2 marathon in Allentown, while doing a training run I experienced a sharp pain in my groin, I had to stop and walk home. I did no riding or running up to the 1/2 and then only rode 1 day prior to the Escape. I completed my swims as scheduled. I wasn't concerned about the time off and felt well prepared for the race. Turns out I am still not training and have an MRI scheduled for this Friday.
The race was awesome, the scenery incredible. The events prior to the race and after were a big disappointment. I expected much more for the cost and the fact that it was the 30th running. Not sure if I would recommend this to someone else.
