Ahhhh!!!!

May 18th was a great day, I completed the Escape and spent the weekend with my wife in San Francisco, we had a wonderful time. Came home only to find I had stress fractures in my right femor. Apparently, I had them for the last 2 events I completed - the 1/2 mary and the Escape.

So any guesses what the treatment is for a fractured femor????No guesses, well it is 6 - 8 weeks of nothing, no weight bearing at all, in fact the doctors want you on crutches for most of that time, right?!?!

I began my recovery by doing 3/4 days on crutches for just about 3 weeks. My two jobs call for a lot of walking. Next, my planned and paid for races at the May, in June and August are now in jeopardy of not being completed. I am so disappointed.

Coopersburg 5K - definitely out

Philly Olympic - considered doing the swim and bike(easy) - turns out the sprint race had a tragedy, a swimmer drown, so the race turned into a run-bike-run - or for me a walk - bike - drop out. I felt ok, not good, not bad but more towards the bad.

Steelman - ok, I am thinking I have to do this race to see if I am going to be able to even think about the 1/2 Iron at the end of the month. I have been swimming for 2 weeks, riding for up to 25 miles - really easy, and did several 1 and 2 mile runs. I made it not a personal best, actually it was a best considering I was still having some stiffness(we'll call it this) especially on the ride.

Doctor visit. I tell him what I have been doing, he doesn't agree with all the riding and running but what can he do. He tells me it is not a good idea to compete in the 1/2 Iron - I tell him I didn't spend that amount of money to not go and at least take my time through it.
SO...I train as much as I think I can with out hurting myself. That involves more riding, a lot of swimming and gradually increases in my run. I have 2 weeks to get as ready as possible. I am thinking that my muscles will remember where I was for the Escape and I will be able to finish without pain or injury.
