Proper Rest

It has been 15 days since the 1/2 mary in Va and I have felt sluggish since back into hard training.  The week immediately following the race was an easy week run wise but I increased the riding. As some of you know, I do not like riding in the wind and it has been really windy every day, so I have yet to get a ride in outside - this is not good. I increased the swim as well in preparation for the first sprint TRI of the season. I am hoping to have a very strong swim an average to above average bike and a strong run. Last year it was a cool morning and overcast, I am hoping it is better this year.
Following the Shamrock last year, I did not take any time off from run training and ended up with a stress fracture in my leg. Looking back, I know exactly when it occurred and what not to do this year. I rested the legs and stayed off of the asphalt.
About rest - it is critical to healing and performing. I have found that as my workouts become more intense, I have a more difficult time sleeping. The past 10 days I have not slept well and my workouts have suffered. I continued to workout and changed my nutrition to see if that would help, it has.
Each day that I sleep well, I am able to complete my 2 workouts with proper intensity.
I plan on building my runs back up to the 5 miles 2 times a week and 1 long run on the weekend, 8 - 10 miler.  I do not want to repeat an injury like last year - that just sucked.

So train hard and sleep. Proper planning of rest will ensure you have a successful and long season.
