So school ends and I leave for Europe to chaperone a trip of 70 students for 15 days. This means 15-19 hour days, last to bed and first up..not really a vacation. The real dilemma is that there will be no riding or swimming for 15 days. Time to focus on the running. But that also means getting up way early. I was able to run in London, Paris, Lucerne, Venice, and Florence. I didnt run in Rome, we stayed about an hour outside of the city and there was just no where safe to run that early in the morning.
Each run required me to get up at 5am and go for a run. I also did push-ups and sit-ups on days that I wasnt running. The runs felt good and added to all the walking on the tours, I felt pretty good. Amazingly there seemed to be no humidity while running in Europe.
Upon my return, the first morning back I went for a run...can you say humidity!!! Breathing was more difficult here than in the Alps. I have since adjusted and have begun to rebuild my mileage.
Riding, running and swimming, getting ready for the full Iron distance. Swimming is three days a week, 2 miles minimum. Riding is 3 days a week sometimes 4 minimum is 30 miles with at least one ride between 60 - 100miles, running is 4 days a week with a minimum run of 6miles, usually in the form of a brick, every other run is between 7 - 13 miles.
I am hoping that this will be enough to allow me to finish the full distance at the end of September, the Chesapeake Man, http://www.tricolumbia.org/events/?eid=5.
I ran with my wife this past weekend in the Merrel Down & Dirty, well I walked it with her. I have never finished so low, 3rd from last in my age group, but it was not a race for a time, it was a race to do with my wife. The girls also ran a 1 mile run with obstacles that ended with a crawl through the mud pit, video will be up soon on youtube.
Keep on training.
