Training and 40th Bday Parties

December, January, February.

It has been 40 years that my friends and I have been on this earth and that means lots of parties. This in turn means lots of beers and bad food, if only I could resist.

Not only do I have to celebrate these life accomplishments, but I also have an annual drink..um, I mean annual bowling tournament in February.

These events never help with my training, but this year they seem to be interfering more than last. Mostly because all of my childhood friends are having parties. Yeah I drink some beers, ok lots of beers, but it is the food that kills me, for more than the obvious reasons.

This year, 2012, I also stopped taking my multivitamin, mostly because I am cheap. I conjecture that this together with the above mentioned poor nutrition has led to some of the crazy injuries that I have been having:
1. threw my back out break dancing at a 40yr old bday party
2. from above had sciatica
3. got sciatica under control but upper back pain is now present
4. knee pain from sciatica is bad, caused runners knee
5. calf pain from brace to protect runners knee
6. hip flexor pain
7. shin splint???probably from changing my running stride from above pains
8. tight hamstring from thrown back - cant stretch right hamstring unless in pool water or hot tub - too much pain(shooting)

Yes, I have my voodoo doctor working on me, and he does a great job. I just joke with him that he is a voodoo doctor, he is a great Chiropractor and I am lucky to have him as a friend also.
Craziest thing is that everything feels good while actually running, that's right when I am running everything feels good. I have continued to build my mileage and am up to two 5-6.5 mile runs during the week, 1 - 7 mile saturday run and then a 9 - 11 mile run on sunday.

I haven't been able to swim last few weeks because of the back, but I will be starting up again next week. The P90X was on hold last 2 weeks due to back and hamstring pain, this too will start up again next week.

Next week also begins my push to lose 10 pounds before the March 17 race, but I will write about this plan in another post.

Keep On training.
