Liberty Island Swim

Friday June 29, 2012, a perfect day for a swim in the Hudson around Lady Liberty.

We had planned on going up as a family but due to our grandfather being in the hospital, he was the one who wanted us to go to Ellis Island and look up his fathers name, I made the trip solo. Rest his soul as he passed early this morning at the age of 90.

I drove to Jersey City and Liberty State Park to pick up the ferry and head over to the islands. It was an easy drive out I78 and everyone was very helpful and friendly at the Park.

I boarded the ferry at about 3pm, so I was not going to stop and visit Ellis Island, but I did jump off during the 10 minute stop to run inside, take a few pictures and then get back on the ferry. Then it was on to Liberty Island.

We landed at the L-Dock and I headed straight to the registration table, luck had it there was no line - unlike later when it was packed.

I got my number and pink cap then walked around the island visiting. Being my first ever visit, it was enjoyable. I took time to determine the proper angle of my GoPro camera that I was going to be wearing on my back. Got some weird looks for this as I was laying on ground.

Rest of the time was waiting for the race start at 6:30pm. Meet some really nice folks while lining up for my wave. They even helped clip my harness on for videoing.

Completed the swim and had a great time doing so, it was really fun.

Made a video:

Keep on training.
