At 5:15am, it was a beautiful but chilly morning, well it was still dark out, so I was hoping it was going to be a beautiful morning.
Wife and I got up, got ready and headed over to Bethlehem to pick-up Steph and Brian. It was nice to know that three of us could consume a few adult beverages following the race and have a driver to keep us safe, thanks wife :)
We drove up to Pottsville, brought back great memories of attending Susquehanna U and making great friends from Pottsville and the surrounding area. Once we arrived we parked in the first lot we saw and walked up to packet pick-up (for Milan) and brewery tour sign-ups. Walking up the hill, did I mention that the race was up hills for 2 miles and then 1 mile of all down, and a steep all down - well now I did.
Anyway, as we were walking up, we ran into Steve, the soon to be birthday boy, yep 41 and looking all of 31. Also ran into Beerman.
Steve and I ran in wave 1, the waves went every 30 seconds, way too many walkers and not so considerate runners(groups of 5 - 10 straight across the road) in our way. We took it out at a nice pace and ohhhhh did we enjoy the straight up hill right before mile 2 marker. Steve had a bit more in him and he let it open up for the finish, ending with a time of 23:something. I finished with a respectable 24:something, damn side sticker from last hill.
Steph and Brian had respectable runs. Steph was the top female finisher for women from Boston. Brian completed his first run in like 25 years. Nice job to both of you. Steve great last 40 year old run.
After the race, thanks to the many friends that bailed on us, we had several race bibs with free beer tickets to use up and met up with Mr. Dick Yuengling.
We had lots of fun at the beer garden, but had to find the sun to stay warm. Not sure who had the most fun:
Following our garden experience, we went on the brewery tour, it was a great time. After the tour, we headed to the famous hotspot, Maroons, for some beer specials and food. Have to love the beer selection.
It was a great day, with great friends, and a race that will definitely be run again sometime.
If anyone is out there in cyber world, the Yuengling Shamrock race report will be coming soon, really, I am just waiting for a sale on the photos before I buy them.
