This year marked my 7th straight Steelman Tri. This was my first ever tri and it may be the best organized tri that I have completed. Here is a link: http://www.steelmantriathlon.com/index.php.
If you areon the fence about Tri-ing this is the event for you. It is challenging but very rewarding.
The swim is very safe as there are many boat and kayaks in the water watching your every move. The wave start is nice, for those that are inexperienced, stay to the back of the wave start. The swim exit has many volunteers to help you gather your legs and get into transition.
Transition is clean and organized.
The bike course is a closed course, that means no cars, of rolling hills - yes some require you to exert some energy up, but it is very rewarding down.
The run course is shaded, although there were a few spots that the weather did some pruning this year. It is a fast track, so you if you train, you can put in a fast time.
There was a special guest this year cheering all of us on.
This year also marked the first year that I disregarded training and attended MusikFest, http://www.musikfest.org/ , 7 out if 10 days.
The Fest is always a great time with long lost friends and new found friends. After the race I napped and then made it down to Fest on the last night. Here is a picture from the fireworks near SteelStacks.
How does Swimming, Biking and Running with an additional 8 pounds feel? You will find that you have many more aches than normal and everything feels slower :)
I had a nice race overall, definitely did not train enough. I finished 9th in my age group and 56 overall. I was 2 minutes slower than last year and 4 minutes slower than my course best.
Overall, I was happy with my race and received a great chair to show off my accomplishments.
Dale is a great race planner and will be seeing me again in 2014.
